245 Tue 31/12/02 22:05 Car fire, behind a pub, in Hythe. A serious house fire in the area had used up all the local resources, so when this call we were sent as the next nearest station. The petrol tank had split, and fuel was escaping, and burning off, which made the fire reasonably difficult to extinguish. 2 HPHR, 1 Jet, and Dry Power extinguisher used to deal.

244 Tue 31/12/02 06:51 AFA at a warehouse unit on Calmore Industrial estate. Building checked from the outside for signs of fire ( none) and as the keyholder had failed to arrive, we returned to home station.

243 Mon 30/12/02 20:46 Shed on fire, on an allotment in Totton. A shed, was well alight by the time the alarm was raised, and practically destroyed by the time we arrived on the scene, Stop: 1 shed, severely damaged, by fire, 1 HPHR.

242 Tue 24/12/02 17:57 Shed on fire, at a private address near to the center of Totton. A bit of a mysterious fire this, with no apparent source of ignition! Stop: small fire shed, 1 HPHR.

241 Tue 24/12/02 13:26 AFA at a newish warehouse, and distribution center, on the Houndsdown Industrial estate. Steam from a boiling kettle had triggered a smoke alarm. Stop: FAGI.

240 Fri 20/21/02 14:29 From Basingstoke, Stand by on station. A property fire in a near by village had emptied Basingstoke of the full time pumps, and we were called in. No further calls.

239 Wed 18/12/02 12:05 From Basingstoke Stand by on station. A "persons reported" shout in a near by village had emptied the station of wholetime pumps, the retained section was called in to provide "instant response" cover. No further calls were received, and we were dismissed as soon as one of the wholetime pumps returned to station.

238 Mon 16/12/02 11:51Whilst working on a contract at Basingstoke fire station, had been asked, by the local station commander, to take my fire kit, and turn out with the local retained pump. From Basingstoke, Car leaking petrol, in the town center. One of the wholetime pumps came free from the job they had been sent to, and made it to the scene before us, so we did not see much action! Stop: SSCC car made safe.

237 Sun 15/12/02 08:25 Fire in garage, possible persons reported, at a private address in Calmore A garage in a detached garage block had suffered a fire. It was thought that someone had been using the garage to sleep in, and, of course, thought they might still be in there. Stop: small fire garage, 1 HPHR, 2 BA, no persons involved.

232 Thu 12/12/02 20:34 Car on fire, address given as Dearleap lane, though we found the burning car in Staplewood Lane. A car in the middle of nowhere, with no owner, or driver! That has got to be a bit suspicious! 2 HPHR, and 2 BA used to deal.

231 Wed 11/12/02 19:47 Rubbish on fire, outside of a private address, very near to the center of Totton. Stop: small fire, Rubbish, 1 HPHR.

230 Tues 10/12/02 08:06 Reported fire at at a local college building. On arrival at the front of the building, we were greeted by bemused staff who had no idea we were on our way. There were no fire alarms operating, which was a bit of a surprise, as the building has a full AFD system. We went around to the person who had reported the fire, and sure enough, in an upstairs window, there were twelve or so flames dancing merrily away. On return to the college we made our way to, what turned out to be, the chemistry department to find a number of Bunsen burners alight ( 12 ). The chemistry lecturer had lit the burners, as it was a cold morning, and the heating had filed to bring the room up to temperature. Stop: FAGI

229 Sun 08/12/02 Car fire, on Calmore Estate. A car, which was thought to be stolen, had been abandoned and torched. The fire had not taken hold of the car, and only really involved the drivers seat, however this would probably be quite enough to write off the car. Stop: fire, passenger compartment, 2 BA 1 HPHR.

228 Thu 05/12/02 RTA trapped, on the A31 towards Picket Post. As we were driving to the scene control were sending messages to the responding pumps which seemed to convey that we had a nasty incident on our hands. The description was that a car had left the carriageway, and was on the verge, ploughed into a road sign, with the driver waving at passers by for help. We were the first pump on the scene, and found a car parked on the verge, with no discernible damage. It transpired that the car had suffered a pretty major blow out, and had simply parked on the verge. We provided scene safety whilst the police arrived, who began to consider arranging recovery for the car and the occupants ( a mother and five children) Recovery did not seem to be a very quick option, and it was decided to simply change the wheel to get the family on their way, and off the road! Stop: A/C by break down!

227 Thu 05/12/02 16:55 car fire, at a private address, very near to the station. A car, parked on the drive, having been the subject of RTA damage, suddenly decided to start smoking, and catch fire! 224 Sun 01/12/02 07:42 (another night where sleep was an optional extra) AFA at the sewerage works just outside of Marchwood. On arrival we were met by an operator on site, who had found a fire alarm coming from a HV switch chamber. Further investigation uncovered a strange aroma emanating from the room. When a site electrician arrived on site the area was opened very carefully and it was discovered that the Carbon Dioxide drenching system had operated, though no reason could be found for the operation of the fire drenching system Stop: A/C by fault on AFA system.

223 Sun 01/12/02 05:03 After being in bed for a whole two minutes after the previous shout, we were tipped out to:- Fire, at a local residential care home for old people. 220 Fri 29/11/02 08:06 Reported fire, at an extremely large distribution center for one of the well know major supermarkets, on Nursling Industrial Estate. The origin of the call was said to be the military who were providing the fire cover, for the area at the time, so we were led to believe that the call could not be covered by them, as they might have been too busy, or they had a job, and could not cope. We were the first pump to arrive at the store, which lead us to believe that the military did not have a pump to send, however, a Green Goddess arrived a few minutes later. The staff at the depot where unaware that we were going to arrive, and further information from control, told us that the call had come from a passing motorist. With no sign of fire, and no fire alarm operating, we started to look for a reason for a FAGI, and quickly spotted a plume of steam rising from a boiler plant room. Stop: FAGI.

219 Thu 28/11/02 07:29 Motorbike on fire, outside of a private address on Calmore. It seems that the owner, a dispatch rider had started the bike up, whilst he went inside to get ready, so it would be nice and warm. It was! Stop: 1 motorbike, 1 HPHR.

210 Wed 13/11/02 23:42 Shed fire at a private address on the Rushington Estate. This was the first call we had received since the beginning of the wholetime firefighters strike. Stop: FAM. It was thought that the malicious call had been placed to see if "Green Goddesses" would turn up!

209 Sun 10/11/02 13:50 Car fire near to the entrance to Jacobs Gutter Lane. No signs of any incident or car by the time we arrived. It was assumed that the car had suffered a leak in the coolant circuit, and the smoke that had been spotted, was in fact steam, However, it is difficult to be sure when the car has gone by the time we arrive! Stop: FAGI, vehicle had proceeded.

208 Thu 07/11/02 22:48 AFA at the Southern Water pumping station. On Calmore estate. Stop; A/C by power failure to building.

207 Thu 07/11/02 16:19, house fire on the new Rushington Estate. A small fire in the airing cupboard had been discovered by a gentleman returning home for the day. He left the property, and waited for us outside. Two BA, and a Hose Reel were deployed into the incident to deal with the fire, which was quickly extinguished. The cause was thought to be the electrical immersion heater, and associated control gear.

206 Sat 02/11/02 12:26 property fire, in brand new estate, near to Safeways. A halogen uplighter, in an upstairs bedroom, had come into contact with some combustible material. Fumes were coming from the area of the battery in the engine compartment, It is thought that the rain filling the underside of the upturned bonnet had come into contact with acid from the battery, causing the fumes. The police arrived on the scene, and we arranged for recovery of the wrecked car. Stop: FAGI, A/C by fumes from battery, No action by HFRS.

200 Sat 12/10/02 10:10 AFA at a sheltered block of flats in West Wellow. Stop: A/C by power failure of SEB supply. Actually this is Romsey's patch, but they were out dealing with some AFA's of their own in the near vicinity ( also caused by the power failure!)
