141 Thu 30/12/04 19:20. Car fire in a forest car park, A presumed stolen car, well alight on arrival. 1 BA 1HPHR 1 Main Jet used to deal. Police in attendance.
140 Wed 29/12/04 18:57 SSC, Car leaking fuel, outside of an address in the Water lane area of Totton. Fuel was leaking from the cut fuel lines of a car. The fuel lines were crimped, and the fuel washed away with 1 HPHR. Stop: SSCC.
139 Thu 23/12/04 18:42, reported fire in the new wing of the local psychiatric hospital. A "client" had barricaded themselves into an area, and had then sprayed the smoke detector to set it off. The police were called to restrain the person, and the area was checked for signs of fire. Stop: No action HFRS.
138 Mon 20/12/04 21:04 Car fire, Junction Road. A nearly new Landrover Discovery, had suffered what appeared to be an electrical fault in the dashboard, and was merrily smoking away on arrival. The owner had realised what was happening, and had disconnected the battery, so limiting the damage, but the smouldering plastic needed damping down with a hose reel. Stop: Small fire, in passenger compartment, 1 HPHR.
137 Mon 13/12/04 23:56 Car fire on the Calmore Estate. A stolen car had been parked amongst some other cars in a residential car park, and then set on fire, The car was well alight on arrival, with heat damage to the two adjoining cars, and a garden fence. 2 HPHR, and 2 BA used to deal.
136 Mon 13/12/04 18:09 Chimney fire at a house in the Calshot area. Another call had emptied the local stations, and we were the next available pump. A chimney fire in a single story gate house property. The chimney was quite difficult to access and we had to tackle some of the fire from the roof, using ladders to climb on to the roof, and a hose reel to squirt water down the chimney. This had already been attempted by the occupant, and we had to rescue him from the roof when we arrived! Stop: Chimney fire.
01/11/04 to 13/12/04 saw an enforced abstinence from fire calls whilst I recovered from an operation to remove an errant appendix!
135 Fri 22/10/04 23:07 AFA at a hospital in Ashurst. A representative of the local wildlife had taken up residence in a smoke detector, and this had triggered the system!
134 Sun 10/10/04 15:19 AFA at a large office block, on Calmore Industrial Estate. The call had come in from a lady who was working on site. The indicator panel was showing an alarm, but no cause could be found, Stop: A/C by electrical fault on AFA system.

131 Sun 03/10/04 17:30 Fire reported in a house, only about half a mile away from the last fire ( shout number 130). On arrival we found smoke issuing from the first floor. A small fire in a bedroom, involving bedding, and a bed had also done considerable smoke damage to the entire first floor. 2 BA, 1 HPHR used to deal. The cause of the fire was under investigation, however the most likely cause seems to be a young child.
130 Sun 03/10/04 09:27 Fire at a private address in the Brokenford area of Totton. A small fire in the lounge of a house, on the floor, spreading to the sofa. One Lady rescued from the property, given oxygen therapy, and taken to hospital by Hampshire Ambulance Service. 4BA, 1 HPHR used to deal. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

95 Sat 31/07/04 09:37, AFA at local authority run sheltered housing block, in the Calmore area. Stop: A/C by electrical fault on system.
94 Sat 31/07/04 06:49 A bonfire, on marsh land, near to the High Street, Eling. Some kids had set up a camp overnight on the marsh land, and had lit a bonfire. The area was inaccessible for the pump, so a couple of knapsack pumps were used to deal, after walking to the job.
93 Sat 24/07/04 Grass and bushes on fire, adjacent to the M27, under the Hill Street Bridge. NO signs on arrival, so further bridges over the M27 were checked. No signs, Stop: FAGI smoke from unknown source.
92 Thu 22/07/04 19:05 RTA trapped, Commercial Road, Totton. A lady had come off her cycle, and trapped her foot in the spokes of the wheel. Some minor cutting of spokes quickly freed her. Stop: SSCC.
91 Wed 21/07/04 20:09 AFA at a local authority run block of flats, quite close to the station. Stop: A/C by fumes from cooking,.
90 Sat 17/07/04 01:15 Caravan on fire, in a works yard, in the Eling area. A small fire mainly consisting of some soft furnishings, just inside a broken window!. Stop: 1 HPHR, cause not thought to be accidental.
89 Sun 11/07/04 16:14 Fire reported at a private address in the Marchwood area. An electrical fault in a cooker had sparked the scare. The cooker was removed from the house. Stop: Small fire, cooker, OOA, removal in progress.
88 Sat 10/07/04 17:28 RTA trapped, in the Bartley area. An RTA involving a single car with only the driver, the car had left the road, run down a ditch, and come to a dead stop when it found a tree in the way. The side of the car was removed, as well as the seats to create space, and then the casualty was lifter out of the tail lift of the estate car. Stop: SSCC, 1 male casualty to hospital by ambulance.
87 Sat 10/07/04 14:46 Car fire, near to junction 2 of the M27. A specialist sports car on its way to a show, had suffered from an oil leak, from a loose oil filter. The oil had come into contact with the hot exhaust manifold, and ignited. The fire was out on our arrival, but a HPHR was used to cool the area down. Stop: Small fire engine compartment, OOA.
86 Sat 10/07/04 09:58 Fire reported at a private house in the Testbourne area of Totton, a smoking socket had triggered the alarm. Stop: A/C by electrical fault in socket.
85 Tue 06/07/04 03:39 Smoke in the area of Commercial Road Totton. At first a tour round the area revealed nothing, There was a definite smoke haze hanging over an area of Totton, but with no discernible cause, however, we were able to trace the smoke up to Calmore industrial estate, and then across the lakes to the Mill Street area of Nursling. We travelled on foot into farm land, to find a large bonfire, burning off a tress, a and branches, and the like. Stop: A/C by Controlled burning.
84 Fri 02/07/04 19:09 Fire, in a small industrial unit, At Cadnam. It appears that some welding has sparked off a fire in the dust extract system of some sort of spray booth. The fire was mainly centred on the fan section of the trunking. 2 BA, and 1 HR used to deal. The area was checked fully to ensure that there was no fire spread.
83 Fri 02/07/04 01:28 Fire, Persons reported, in a block of flats, in the Redbridge Road area. A fire involving the lounge of a ground floor flat, 2 HR, 4 BA used to deal. All persons accounted for. A broken window, and a strong smell of petrol indicated that the cause of the fire may well not be accidental!
82 Mon 28/06/04 19:02 reported fire at an old peoples home in Lyndhurst. Due to the nature of the building and the type of call three pumps were despatched. On arrival we found that there had been a power cut in the area and a stand-by generator set ( they didn't know they had!) started up, belching black smoke out, and making a lot of noise. We all came away!

78 Fri 25/06/04 23:18 On arrival back at the station we were sent on to :- Car fire, near a school building in West Totton. A car well alight in a car park. 2 BA, and 2 HPHR used to deal.
77 Fri 25/06/04 22:53, Lock out, Risk Of Fire, (chip pan left on) at an address in Totton. A first floor flat above a shop. On arrival we were met by the occupiers, who explained the problem. Our first response was to see if there was a window open through which we could make an entry, however, we also went to examine the front door, and could smell a very strong smell of hot oil, which could ignite fairly soon, so we decided we had to make a quick entrance through the front door. Entry was gained, and the chip pan was removed from the heat, avoiding a fire. Stop: SSCC, entry gained.
76 Sun 06/06/04 01:20 AFA at a large distribution warehouse for a popular consumer electronics company. On the turnout instructions there was also a note that said the sprinkler system had operated. This rang alarm bells ( literally as well!) if there was a fire, then the sprinkler system would have operated to contain it. However, the sprinkler system operating would also trigger the fire alarm. On arrival we found that the sprinkler system appeared to have been damaged by one of the workers, which had caused the AFA, and flooded a large area of the warehouse. Stop: A/C by accidental operation of sprinkler system.
75 Sat 05/06/04 21:01 Disused garages on fire, in a derelict part of a local hospital. A pile of rubbish inside of a derelict garage was quickly dealt with using 1 HPHR.
74 Thu 03/06/04 11:49 (from A05) RTA washdown, on one of the junctions with the A31. A car had lost control and had struck the side of a lorry, with such force that it broke the rear axle of the lorry away! The diesel tank on the lorry had spilt, so diesel fuel was spilling all over the road, fortunately the lorry was a tipper truck carrying earth, which we used to mop up the fuel! The scene was made safe, and ambulance personnel were assisted with casualty handling. We stood by, at the scene, until the vehicles had been recovered, due to the risk from the diesel spill. Stop: SSCC.
73 Th. 03/06/04 10:45 (From A05) AFA at a school on the outskirts of Odiham. Odiham had ridden with three riders, and we were sent to back them up. They put a stop back before we had travelled very far, so we returned home.
72 Wed 02/06/0419:40 Stand by at Lymington fire station. Two major fires in the forest areas had emptied the forest of pumps, and we were sent to stand by at an empty station. No further calls. We returned home at almost midnight.
71 Wed 02/06/04 18:03 Skip on fire, at a local industrial estate. A grass full of mowings was quietly smouldering away, 1 jet used to extinguish.
70 Wed 02/06/04 12:15 (From A05) Follow on call from (69) assist police with the extracation of the casualty from the previous accident. The car had been restored to its wheels, and the casualty had to be removed from the car. Stop: SSCC.
69 Wed 02/06/04 08:10 ( whilst working as a contractor for HFRS, I was completing a project at Alton Fire station, whilst working there, I was on call, and was called to....) (From A05) RTA trapped, just outside of Alton. A collision between a commercial vehicle, and a private car. The driver of the van was injured, but able to walk, whilst the car driver did not survive the impact. The area was made safe, and the police started their investigations. As there was little we could do in the mean time, we returned to the station.
68 Mon 31/05/04 21:29 Rubbish fire, on a track, to the rear of Testwood School. A pile of advertising papers had been set on fire, but were out on arrival. Stop: No action HFRS.
67 Mon 31/05/04 21:15 Shed on fire, Testwood Allotments. A small wooden shed, well alight on arrival, 2 HPHR used to deal. This was not thought to be an accidental fire. Whilst at the scene, we were advised of a further fire, involving rubbish, a little way along a track from the first incident.
66 Mon 31/05/04 13:35 RTA Trapped, Ower Roundabout. A minor collision between two cars, no one trapped, scene made safe by HFRS.
65 Sun 30/05/04 20:40 RTA washdown, on the A326. A road traffic incident that had involved two private cars, both of which were quite badly damaged. The occupants had all managed to get out of the cars, and some of them were in the process of being taken to hospital by ambulance. The two cars were made safe.

63 Sun 30/05/04 00:24 Lift rescue, at an Old peoples home in the Calmore area. An ambulance crew and their patient had become trapped in a lift. We released then soon after we had arrived.

61 Sun 23/05/04 12:43. Report of fire, in one of the tower blocks in the Shirley area of Southampton. Most of Southampton's pumps were attending a four pump fire in the Northam area of Southampton. The fire in the tower block, had been spotted by a resident of another tower block, and the caller was unsure of which tower block was involved. The two possible locations were checked, and no sign of fire was found. The smoke seen by the caller was the plume of smoke from the Northam fire. Stop: FAGI.
60 Mon 10/05/04 05:14 Car fire M27. A small fire in the engine compartment, possibly caused by an outside source ( discarded cigarette butt?) 1 HPHR used to deal.
59 Sun 09/05/04 01:11 Hedge fire, in the Rushington area of Totton. Stop: 1 HPHR.
58 Fri 07/05/04 17:18. Field on fire, in the West Totton area, an a contractors bonfire had been left burning, however, it was not in any danger of spreading, so it was left alone. Stop: C/B no action by HFRS.
57 Thu 06/05/04 15:08 Stand by at St Marys fire station. A fire involving a lorry with cylinders, in the Romsey area, and an additional minor fire in Southampton had emptied the city of pumps. We were turned back after booking onto St Mary's ground, St Mary's second pump had booked a stop and available, we were not required.
56 Sun 02/04/04 23:23 RTA trapped, A31, top of castle Melwood Hill. An RTA involving 1 private car, which had left the road, into the central reservation, ending up on it's side. The occupants had been removed by ambulance crews prior to our arrival. Stop: No persons trapped, scene made safe.
55 Fri 30/04/04 23:24 Garage fire, on the Calmore estate. One garage, well alight on arrival, with smoke pouring from several other garages in the block. The garage involved was forced open, and the fire extinguished. The adjoining garages were also forced to release the smoke, and check for fire spread. Stop: fire in garage, 4 BA 2 HPHR.

52 Fri 16/04/04 22:05 Shed fire in the Woodlands area. A small fire which was out on arrival, however a child had been injured, so an ambulance was called. Stop: OOA
51 Tue 13/04/04 13:16 Pumps 2 to the rear of a pub, in the Bevous Valley area. A pile of rubbish was alight, and endangering the rear of an adjacent derelict building. Our first task was to check for fire spread in the derelict building, having made sure there was none, we joined the other team, and together turned over the ( not insubstantial) rubbish pile.
50 Tue 13/04/04 13:08 AFA at Southampton General hospital. (A HAZMAT incident in Southampton had emptied St Mary's fire station, and one of the pumps from Redbridge had gone to St Mary's to stand by. The PDA for an AFA at the hospital is 2 pumps, so we were sent. The stop on the job was put back, prior to our arrival, however, another fire in Southampton had been attended by the second Redbridge pump, who made pumps to, so we were sent on to...(see shout above)

48 Fri 09/04/04 21:36 Called by radio from previous job- Bonfire out of control, in the garden of a house on the Calmore estate. A pile of furniture, well alight, on arrival, and threatening everything around it, including the house! The occupant did not want us to put it out, however, due to the small size of the garden, and the proximity to the house, we had no choice. 1 HPHR used to deal.
47 Fri 09/04/04 21:25 Call to a fire in the playground of a local school. On arrival we found that a bonfire in a nearby garden had appeared to be in the playground. Stop: FAGI. Called by radio to call above.
46 Fri 09/04/04 03:05 Flower stall, by the side of the road, In the Ower area. An extended "portacabin" well alight on arrival. It appears that the fire might have started in a car, parked near to the front of the building. 2 pumps sent, as this was a property fire, 2 HPHR, 1 jet, 2 BA used to deal. 45 Thu 08/04/04 08:42 AFA at a motel, on the A31, at Stoney Cross. Unable to decide the exact cause, as the alarm had been reset, by staff, prior to arrival.
44 Tue 06/04/04 22:32 Car fire outside of an address on the Calmore Estate. This fire bore startling similarities to a fire we had in almost the same spot a few months ago. 1 HPHR, and 2 BA used to deal.
43 Tue 06/04/04 06:38 Relief crew to a six pump fire in a pallet yard in Southampton. The first call had come in at 00:07, and crews had been at the scene all night. Our task was to keep an eye on the pile of embers, which were being allowed to burn out, whilst ensuring nothing flared up. We were relieved about three hours later by a crew from Hightown.
42 Fri 02/04/04 01:39 RTA washdown, A326, West of Totton. A car had attempted to take a roundabout too fast, and had felled a couple of road signs in the process. No one was hurt, the car was made safe. Stop: SSCC.
41 Sun 28/03/04 00:18 The second car fire of tonight, an LPG powered taxi, parked outside the owners house. A small fire under the bonnet was just beginning to take hold as we arrived. 2 HPHR, and 2 BA used to deal.
40 Sat 27/03/04 22:50 Initial call was to a "fire type unknown", however as we booked mobile control informed us that this was a car fire. A car, which we presumed to be stolen, had been parked under a road bridge, and set on fire, and was well alight by the time we arrived. 2 HPHR used to deal.

30 Thu 04/03/04 18:27 RTA trapped, A326 Totton. An accident involving three private cars, with no one trapped. The vehicles were rendered safe.
29 Mon 01/03/04 07:53 SSC, Old Lady locked out of her flat. On arrival we found that the old lady was inside her flat, but not answering the door to her family, who had visited her. The door was forced, and we found the old lady sat watching TV!!! Stop: SSCC, entry gained.

27 Tue 24/02/04 20:36 RTA trapped, near to the Rushington Roundabout. A single car, with a driver only, had left the road, and hit a tree. The roof was removed to facilitate the removal of the casualty, who was taken to hospital by Hampshire Ambulance. Stop: SSCC, 1 Male released.
26 Sun 22/02/04 18:43 Smell of burning, inside of a private house, on the Calmore Estate. A neighbor had been burning rubbish in an incinerator outside. Stop: A/C by smoke from outside source.
25 Sat 21/02/04 16:55 AFA at a private hospital site on Redbridge's patch. They had been caught with two fire calls at once, so we were sent as the second pump to the second call. Stop: A/C by electrical fault on AFA system.

23 Sun 15/02/04 09:20 Reported fire, in the new wing of a local hospital for people with mental health problems. A small fire in a waste paper basket, which had burned itself out on our arrival.
22 Sun 15/04/02 01:54 Chimney, at a private house in the Bartley area. A difficult chimney that necessitated both rodding, and a roof ladder being put up, to facilitate using a hosereel to put some water down the chimney. Stop: Chimney!
21 Sat 14/02/04 18:04 Fire, type unknown, children's play area, Ibbotson Way, Rushington. A small amount of rubbish, in the open had been set fire. OOA.
20 Fri 13/02/04 04:54 Fork lift truck on fire, outside of an industrial premises, on the Calmore industrial Estate. 1 fork lift truck, merrily smoking away from an overheated motor. Water was played on the motor, to cool it down. Stop: A/C by overheated electrical motor.
19 Mon 09/02/04 18:45 AFA at a local sheltered flats complex for the elderly. Stop: A/C by fumes from cooking.
18 Sun 08/02/04 03:58 Van on fire, at a private address in the North Totton area. A four X four vehicle on a private drive, well alight, with fire rapidly spreading to a hedge, and another van. 2 HPHR 2 BA used to quell the flames. The cause was not thought to be accidental.
17 Wed 04/02/04 09:06 RTA washdown A31. RTA involving 1 private car, which had run off the road, and into a ditch. No one with the car. Scene checked, and car made safe.

15 Sun 01/02/04 20:01 Report of fire, at a home for elderly people, in the West Wellow area. Three pumps sent, due to the nature of the premises. On arrival we found smoke logging to a section of the building, near to the boiler house. It was discovered that a flood in the boiler house had caused some electrical problems with a pump, which had caught fire. Stop: small fire, 1 HPHR, 2 BA.
14 Sat 31/01/04 08:26 AFA at a home for elderly people, in Lyndhurst. This was on Lyndhurst's patch, but they were involved with an RTA call, so we were sent. Stop: A/C by electrical fault on AFA system.
13 Wed 28/01/04 21:30 AFA at a local hospital for people with mental health issues. Stop: A/C by malicious breakage of Break Glass call point.
12 Tue 27/01/04 08:32 Lorry fire, A35. Three pumps were sent to this incident, and they all traveled along the A35, two from the Totton area, towards Lyndhurst, and Lyndhurst, back towards Totton. When we all had met in the middle having found nothing, control told us this was a coach, in a layby, opposite Dearleap Lane. We all made our way to this site, to find nothing but a big patch of soot on the road. It is assumed that the coach suffered some sort of engine failure, but had then left the scene. Stop: FAGI.
11 Sun 25/01/04 20:34 RTA washdown, between Eling and Marchwood. A vehicle had failed to negotiate the bends, and had ended up on it's roof, and was spilling petrol and fuel onto the road. The car was righted, and 1 HPHR used to wash the road surface. Stop: SSCC.
10 Sun 25/01/04 01:21 Car on fire, in the Calmore area of Totton. On arrival we found a small jeep type car well alight. 2 HPHR used to deal. The police were in attendance, and thought the cause was not accidental!
9 Sat 24/01/04 04:55 Report of smoke in the living room of a house in the Calmore area of Totton. On arrival there was a light smoke haze, which smelt of food. The kitchen was checked but nothing found. The adjacent properties were checked, and a smoke alarm was heard in one of them. It appears that someone came home from the pub, "tired and emotional" and decided to get something to eat, and put some pizza in the oven, and then forgot it and went to bed. Another offering to the great god Zeus! Stop: Small fire, oven, OOA
8 Thu 15/01/04 08:59 RTA Trapped, Beechwood Road, Bartley. An incident involving 1 private car, which had driven off the road, and into a culvert. The car was on its side, with the driver held in place by her seat belt. The car was steadied, and then, to aid extracation, was eased back onto it's wheels. The roof was then removed to allow the longboard to be employed to remove the casualty. Stop: 1 Female released by HFRS, to hospital by HAS.
7 Sun 11/01/04 21:15 Car fire, Romsey Road, Ower. An unattended car, parked on the verge, with a fire developing in the interior. 1 HPHR and 2 BA used to deal.
6 Fri 09/01/04 02:25 Bins on fire, outside of a chip shop, near the center of Totton. Stop: open end used to flood the bin, and quell the flames.
5 Sun 04/01/04 20:57 Bin on fire, Central Precinct Totton. A small bin on the wall, near a cash point. Stop: 1 bucket of water used to quell the fire.
4 Sun 04/01/04 15:02 SSC Lift Rescue, at a block of flats for the elderly, in the Brokenford area of Totton. Stop: 4 people released by HFRS.
3 Sun 04/01/04 14:10 AFA at a local authority run block of sheltered retirement flats, in the Calmore area. A flat had been left unattended for two weeks, with a hot tap running for the whole time. The steam had caused a lot of damage to the flat, and when the occupier returned, tripped the smoke detector!
2 Sun 04/01/04 01:58 AFA at a private residence on the Calmore estate. Call came from a well know security company, who have the contract to provide security for this house. A power failure and then restoration had triggered the alarm, however, the occupant was unaware of the alarm state, having removed the internal sounder, as it was bleeping, due to the power failure. He was very surprised when we arrived! Stop: A/C by power failure.
