163 Mon 31/12/07 16:59 Report of a fire, at the old Ashurst Hospital site. Although a strong smell of smoke could be discerned in one corridor, no cause could be located.

162 Sat 29/12/07 Chimney fire, pumps 2, in the Brook area. The first pump had been in attendance for an hour, and had run into problems with some kit, were were needed to augment the equipment that had been damaged in dealing with the fire.

161 Thu 27/12/07 05:00 Relief crew, to a 10 pump thatch fire in the Fordingbridge area. Not really a lot of excitement, the job was almost all over bar the shouting. A bit of smouldering thatch to deal with, and drag away from the building, and a lot of clearing up to do. We were relieved from the scene at about 10:00.

160 Tue 25/12/07 01:33 Car fire, reported to be on the M271, however the car turned out to be visible from the M271, but in a field on the end of a long track, next to the M271. Two pumps had been despatched, due to the motorway location, and as it was on Redbridge's patch we left them to deal.

159 Sat 22/12/07 03:10 Car fire, in the Calmore area of Totton. A presumably stolen car had been dumped and torched. 2 HPHR and 1 Jet used to deal, with 2BA.

158 Thu 20/12/07 06:55 Report of a recycling bin fire, in the Winsor Road car park. No sign of fire found. Stop: FAM.

157 Wed 19/12/07 15:00 Report of a Fire, at a privately run block of sheltered housing for the elderly, which we regally attend for an AFA. Some cooking had been left on the stove, whilst the owner went out. A small fire consisting of the contents of the saucepan was quickly dealt with, by putting it under the tap, and removing it from the building. PPV was used to deal with the fumes.

156 Tues 18/12/07 20:36 Call back to the previous job, unfortunately the fire proved not to be completely out. On this occasion we were able to remove the wood burning stove, to access the chimney better, and remove the burning clinker.

155 Tues 18/12/07 19:02 Chimney fire, at an address in the Ringwood Road area of Totton. A wood burning stoke attached to a chimney with the chimney alight. An inspection trap allowed us access to deal with the chimney without removing the, still extremely hot, wood burning stove. We only left the scene when we were sure the fire was out.

154 Mon 17/12/07 08:15 RTC, risk of fire, Deerleap Lane. An RTC involving one private car, which had apparently slipped on ice, and left the road. The fumes seen coming from the car turned out to be from a ruptured radiator, so we took no action.

153 Sat 15/12/07 21:16 Chimney Fire, at a private address in the Houndsdown area. On the way control called us up telling us that the fire had spread into the roof space, and that a second pump had been despatched. On arrival we quickly ascertained that the fire had not spread, and that we were dealing with a simple chimney. The scare had been caused when some smoke escaping from the chimney had been seen leaving the roof. Chimney rods were used to deal with the chimney fire.

152 Thu 13/12/07 04:14 Relief crew, to a major blaze, at a meat processing and packing plant (abattoir) just to the west of Andover. This had been a major fire which had not been fully extinguished, and the building was badly damaged, with some of it in a pretty dangerous state. The fire was being fought from the outside. Two aerial appliances were being used to drown the inside of the building, where the roof had collapsed, and the rest of the manpower were in use supplying water to the ALPs and gaining access through walls etc. We left scene about 11:00 AM to return home, and clean our gear.

151 Sun 09/12/07 16:50 SSC Horse down, in field. With no vehicular access we were faced with having to assist the horse by hand as it were. After several fruitless attempts, the horse was persuaded that up was good, and being down was bad, and was led away by the owners.

150 Thu 06/12/07 02:01 Stand by at Hardley fire station. A fire in a derelict house had taken all the pumps from the immediate area. We received no further calls, and returned home about 05:30.

147 Sun 02/12/07 10:44 AFA at a toy storage warehouse, on the Calmore estate. A storm was lashing down on us, and although we did not gain entry, as a keyholder was unable to gain access to the building, we suspect that either the wind or the rain had had a negative affect on one of the detectors!

146 Sun 02/12/07 01:30 Report of a car fire on the A35, near to Rushington Roundabout. A car was by the side of the road, still running, with no signs of a problem. The occupants had pulled over and stopped when smoke had been seen coming from the engine, but no reason for the smoke was found. Stop: FAGI.

145 Sun 25/11/07 14:32 RTC Trapped, just outside of Lyndhurst. The first pump on the scene (Lyndhurst) verified that no one was actually trapped, and so they did not need any more assistance. We were turned back.

143 Sat 24/11/07 18:17 Lock in at a large shop in Totton. The management had locked up a shop, and set the burglar alarm, however some of the staff were still on the premises, and then triggered the intruder alarm! The intruder alarm triggered the "smoke cloak" which filled the shop with a blinding (but non toxic) smoke. PPV was used to clear the smoke.

142 Fri 22/11/07 22:44 Shed fire in the rear garden of a property in the Rushington area. It appears that a bonfire had set light to a shed. 1 HPHR used to deal.

138 Mon 05/11/07 23:57 report of a fire at a workshop in the Ashurst area. When we arrived it looked for all the world like a fire in a workshop that was just starting to break out thought he roof, however when we got to a vantage point to see where the fire was breaking out through the roof, we could see that it was in fact a small fire on the surface of the roof. It's thought that a firework was to blame for the incident. 1 HPHR was used to deal with the incident.

137 Sun 04/11/07 16:31 Report of an oven fire at a private property in the Calmore area. The owner of the house had doused the flames when we arrived, but had inhaled some of the smoke, so a little oxygen was administered to him, no other action by HFRS.

132 Sun 28/10/07 01:43 (GMT) SSC to a local authority run block of flats, quite near to the station. A male resident ( to be honest, one of our regular clients!!!) had managed to get his hand stuck in the case of a clock, having fed his hand through the small hole in the rear, and wrapped his fingers around the pendulum, in an attempt to re-hang the pendulum. The rear of the case was unscrewed sufficient to allow the man to release his hand.

131 Sat 27/10/07 01:37 Car fire, outside a private address on the Calmore estate. A fire, involving one private car, and spreading to a second car, was also causing damage to a house, by virtue of the radiated heat. 1 HPHR, 1 Main Jet, and 2 BA used to deal. The cause was not thought to be accidental.

130 Fri 26/10/07 16:40 Child locked in car, in the car park of a recreation ground in Totton. The poor unfortunate mother had accidentally locked her keys in the car, along with her two year old daughter. A friend had come along to take her husband home for the spare set of keys, and as we were unable to access the car without breaking in, we stood by in case the child became agitated, or in danger. As it was the father returned promptly and the car was unlocked normally.

129 Wed 24/10/07 23:10 Report of a fire at a commercial premises on Salisbury Road. No signs on arrival. An occupant, living in the flat above the business, came to the door, and gave us access to check the building, no fire found.

128 Wed 24/10/07 18:41 SSC to a disabled person stuck with no hoist to help lift him back into bed. The individual had such medical conditions that he did not want to be manhandled. 125 Tue 09/10/07 20:33 AFA at a local authority run block of sheltered flats for the elderly. A small fire in the kitchen ( a chip pan) had sparked the panic, but was out on arrival.

116 Tue 25/09/07 13:46 Report of a stack of wood on fire, in a timber yard, in the Deerleap Lane area. On arrival we found a large pile of scrap wood well alight with radiated heat spreading to a disused portacabin next to it! The pile of wood was tackled with a hose reel to protect the adjacent building, and more water was called for, in the shape of a water carrier. With the fire knocked back down quite a bit the workers were able to move in with hydraulic shovelling gear and spread out the pile, making the attack easier, however as the wood was destined to be burnt once it was all under control, we left them with it!

However, as one car was in a ditch, the occupants could not get themselves out, and the car was cut open to allow an easy exit for them. The doors were forced, and then the roof was flapped to one side, to allow full access so that the casualties could be removed on a long board, as a precaution against spinal injuries. The causalities were all removed to hospital by Hampshire Ambulance service.
